Mare Sanat means “healing sea”. The building was built as a doctor’s residence over a hundred years ago.
About Mare Sanat
Mare Sanat was built around 1908 as a doctor’s villa. The original floor plan shows several rooms designated as a doctor’s office, treatment room and consultation room.
Until April 1935, it was the home of doctor M.J. de Waard. He was also a general practitioner in Beverwijk. From Mare Sanat, he also ran a children’s home that enjoyed national fame.

New Historicist style
The villa Mare Sanat is designed in a New Historicist style.
This architectural style harks back to the architecture of Dutch and English country houses from the 17th and 18th centuries.
